Float Questions

Here is a short video describing some of our sanitation strategies. We are looking forward to serving you soon!

What if I'm claustrophobic or afraid of the dark?
These are common concerns, but most people find that the space within the tank feels limitless.  Remember, you are always in full control of your experience.  You may float with the light on, leave the door open and exit the tank whenever you wish. Studies show that floating with the light on is very nearly as effective at relieving anxiety as a dark float.

Is the water clean?
Very clean!  Eight hundred pounds of Epsom salt, a natural sterilizing agent, is dissolved into only ten inches of water. (It is far saltier than the Dead Sea.) Our primary disinfectant is UV light. This system is effective enough to purify water for drinking, but it works great for float tanks! The entire volume of water is filtered three before and after each float session. We maintain a consistent level of 50 ppm of hydrogen peroxide. Don't worry. It won't bleach your hair, but it does keep the water absolutely clean and safe. Every client is required to shower on site before entering the tank.

What if I am sick the day of my float?
Please give us a call and we will reschedule your session for when you are feeling better.

Do I wear a bathing suit?
We highly recommend floating in the buff.  The feeling of a suit against your skin can be a distraction.

How long should I float?
You are in control of the length of your session.  We offer 90-minute sessions, but you may end the session whenever you want by getting out of the tank. Many people report that it takes about 30 minutes for their bodies to settle down and for their brains to enter "theta state". Our record float was 12 hours long!

Who should not float? Here is a list of reasons to postpone your float:

  • You have symptoms of COVID-19, tested positive for COVID-19 and/or been in close contact with someone with COVID-19 symptoms within 14 days of your appointment.

  • You are not able to enter or exit the float tanks without assistance and do not have a qualified chaperone. Our staff is not able to assist you should you require help, and will call First Responders.

  • You have epilepsy that is not medically controlled and supervised.

  • You have had your hair colored (bleach is okay) recently or a spray tan. The recommended wait time is 10 days. This will ensure that the tank solution will not discolor your hair, and your hair or spray tan will not discolor our solution.

  • You are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

  • You have a new tattoo. The recommended wait time is four weeks.

  • You are in your first trimester of pregnancy.

  • You have large cuts or open wounds.

Will I get water in my ears?
You may choose to use silicone earplugs, which we supply. The silicone plugs, properly used, provide an effective barrier. Salt water is not harmful, but if you get some in your ears you may wish to rinse them in the shower after your float. To remove any moisture which lingers after your shower, please use the rubbing alcohol provided. Simply tilt your head to one side, fill the ear canal with alcohol, tilt your head the other way and let the liquid run out. The dense alcohol will float the water to its surface so that it pours right out. Any remaining alcohol will evaporate almost immediately. Repeat with the other ear if needed.

What is the history of floatation therapy?
Floatation therapy is not a new concept.  It has been practice for more than half a century, and has proven to be an effective tool for physical and mental well-being.  It is recognized and prescribed by the medical community in many European countries, and is available throughout the United States.  The float tank was invented in 1952 by neuroscientist and author John Lilly who was investigating the nature of human consciousness. Lilly sought to create an environment in which a person was removed not only from all sensory input, but from the pull of gravity itself. The commercial float tank was developed by Lilly and Glenn Perry in 1972 and has been in continuous use ever since. Our center houses this time-tested model, the Samadhi Classic. For more information on the history of floating, visit  http://www.samadhitank.com/history.html

Can I float when menstruating?
Yes. Please wear a tampon.

What size are your float tanks?
The floating experience does not differ much between different sizes, as all are designed to comfortably accommodate all shapes and sizes.

Samadhi: 3' 6" wide X 7' 8" long X 3' 5" tall

Escape: 3' 9" wide X 8' long X 3' 8" tall (at tallest point)

Cathedral Pool: 6' wide X 7'6" long

Tranquility Pool 4' wide (at widest point) X 7' 6" long. (Not recommend for people well over 6' tall.)

Salt Room Questions

Is the room clean?
Yes. During sessions the air is saturated with microparticles of salt, a powerful sterilizing agent, which naturally kill bacteria and airborne pathogens. Our ventilation system replaces all the air between sessions and the furniture is wiped down with antibacterial wipes. You may get a bit of salt on your clothing, but it brushes off easily or may be wiped off with a damp cloth.

Can I bring a laptop or iPod?
We advise you not to bring larger items such as a laptop which may be affected by the salt. Small mp3 players or phones that can be slipped into a pocket will be fine. As a courtesy to others, please use headphones if you wish to listen to music. Please refrain from talking on your cellphone.

What if I start to cough?
Coughing is often the first sign that Salt Therapy is working. Micro-particles of salt in the bronchioles and nasal passages draw moisture and thin mucous. This may result in increased coughing over the first several visits.

Who should not take Salt Therapy?
Please check with your physician if you have any form of tuberculosis, hyperthyroidism or chronic kidney disease. Salt therapy is not advised for those in the acute stage of any respiratory disease. sessions. Coughing symptoms should decrease thereafter.

How many sessions are needed for treatment?
Research has shown that 12-20 session within 8 weeks will help chronic conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis, allergies and psoriasis, though we have seen many clients get relief at the first session. Every case is different. Children are particularly responsive to Salt Therapy.

What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing. The salt will not damage clothes and any salt residue can be brushed off. Please refrain from wearing perfumes or scents, as many users of the Salt Room are sensitive or allergic to odors and chemicals. The salt is good for your skin, so feel free to wear short sleeves and short pants.

Is Salt Therapy safe for children?
Yes! It is 100% natural and safe way to treat respiratory illness. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult companion. Companions are not charged to enter the Salt Room. Children must have a parent or guardian sign a permission form before the first visit.

Should I stop taking my medication or inhaler if my symptoms decrease?
No, not without the consent of a physician. Salt Therapy is not a replacement for medical treatment.

Will I feel the salt in my throat?
The particles of salt are so small that they are neither felt nor seen, but you are likely to taste it on your lips
